Apps and reviews#

Chassis works with apps through Shopify's app blocks: no code to paste, and nothing left behind when you remove an app.

Where do app blocks go?#

  • On the product page: in Product information, click Add block and choose the app's block under Apps.
  • Anywhere else: add an Apps section, then add the app's block inside it.
  • App embeds (chat widgets, popups, tracking): in the theme editor, click the App embeds icon in the left sidebar and switch them on.

Product reviews#

Any reviews app that saves ratings to Shopify's standard Product rating fields works with Chassis out of the box. Most review apps do this; check the app's listing or ask its support.

Once the app has ratings saved, the theme shows them:

  • On the product page, with the Product rating block. Clicking the stars scrolls to the reviews.
  • On product cards: turn on Theme settings > Product cards > Show product rating.
  • In the Product slideshow.

To show the reviews themselves, add the app's reviews block in an Apps section below Product information.

Setting up reviews#

  1. Install your reviews app and follow its setup.
  2. On the product template, add the app's reviews widget in an Apps section under Product information.
  3. Add a Product rating block to Product information, under the title.
  4. Turn on Show product rating in Theme settings > Product cards.

The stars don't show. Why?#

The theme reads Shopify's standard fields reviews.rating and reviews.rating_count. Open a product in the admin and look under Metafields: if Product rating is empty, the app hasn't written it yet. Check the app's settings for an option such as Sync ratings to Shopify or ask its support. Products without reviews don't show stars.
